High Hideaway
updated 07/28/08 06:36PM

Difficulty: hard

Materials:
*untreated wood
*phone book or pine pellets

Description

The Hideaway box is a must for Herbie, he spends a lot of time chipping away big holes from the inside out. He also loves to dig in the pine pellets(Cat litter on the box floor). Herbie likes to go up and down the stairs in our house, so the box is set on a table with stairs. A ladder was added to the side. After 8 months it was time to rebuild the hideaway. The holes Herbie had made were not yet big enough for him to get through, but he was close to exposing the screws holding the box together. The orginal box had a wood floor, which was not replaced in the rebuilding. The next redo will include the floor again. The floor kept everything better contained and was less easy for Herbie to move. I will sometimes cover the box lid and the table top with paper for easier cleaning. UPDATE: A grass mat works great for protecting the top of the box. Just hose off. Wish I would have though of it sooner.
